The stunning Guianan Cock-of-the-rock…

… the weird looking Capunchinbird and his impressive display…

… and the sought-after Grey-winged Trumpeter, are all competing for “best bird” on our tour of Guyana.

We’ll begin in Georgetown - here the Botanical Garden - and the nearby coast…

…and move on to open savanna…

…where the few ponds usually attract interesting species.

We’ll also visit the wonderful Iwokrama forest, birding along wide tracks, narrower forest trails…

… and even a canopy walkway.

We’ll use a variety of transport from small but modern planes…

…4x4s…

…massive Bedford trucks…

… and even small boats to bird rivers and lakes.

Accomodations range from simple cabins, here at Surama, an ecotourism project whose benefit is going to the Amerindian community…

… to the Atta lodge…

…located in the middle of the forest (Harpy Eagle has been seen in the garden more than once!)…

…and the refined comfort of Iwokrama lodge…

…were we’ll relish a relaxing atmosphere at the end of our trip.

Birding in Guyana is wonderful, with many colorful birds like Yellow Oriole…

… restricted range species such as the stunning Blood-colored Woodpecker…

…the threatened Black Currasow…

…or the rare Bronzy Jacamar which favours forests with poor soil.

Large number of Band-tailed Nighthawk are sometimes seen along rivers…

… where we’ll also find one of the most beautiful herons in South America, the Capped Heron.

Guyana is also great for general wildlife. We may cross paths with Giant Anteater…

… the near mythical Anaconda …

… impressive Black Caiman…

…or even Red-footed Tortoise.

Guyana really is a great destination for birders and naturalists.
